I am an economist at the National Audit Office of Finland and a doctoral researcher in economics at the University of Helsinki. My work focuses on fiscal policy, macroeconometrics and sovereign debt.

Research interests

  • Macroeconomics
  • Fiscal policy
  • Sovereign debt
  • EU fiscal policy and fiscal rules

Methodologically, I work on macroeconomic modelling — Bayesian VARs, structural identification and nonlinear DSGE methods — and on the fiscal policy analysis that supports the EU fiscal framework.

Current work

EU fiscal rules calculator for Finland

How much Finland has to tighten its budget under the reformed EU fiscal rules, and which rule decides it. Change the assumptions and see the answer move.

EU fiscal rules and multiple equilibria

Whether the reformed rules guarantee a unique low-debt equilibrium. Dissertation project, in progress.

Mechanisms of fiscal consolidation

How successful fiscal consolidations work, estimated with a Bayesian structural VAR. Dissertation project, in progress.
